@LATechTandF Returns to Action at Prestigious Tyson Invitational Friday
Feb. 12, 2015
RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech will compete at one of the most prestigious and challenging indoor meets in the country beginning Friday when action begins at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
The women's team will compete against four of the top five teams in the country, including No. 1-ranked Georgia, and seven of the top 10 programs.
On the men's side, Jarvis Gotch will represent the Bulldogs competing in the long jump at the Tyson Invitational in what is expected to be one of the most-watched long jump competitions this indoor season. That event, which begins at 1 p.m. Friday, will see Gotch face the NCAA's top jumper in Florida's Marquis Dendy who enters with a season-best jump of 26-3.75 (8.02m). Gotch and Dendy are the only collegians to jump over the 26-3 (8.00m) mark this season.
Gotch is currently second in the world this indoor season in the long jump after he set a new school record mark of 26-7.75 (8.12m) at the Vanderbilt Indoor Invitational on Jan. 24. That mark initially led the world before Spain's Eusebio Caceres surpassed it with a jump of 26-9.25 (8.16m) on Jan. 31.
On the women's side, the top-four ranked teams will be awaiting the Lady Techsters in Fayetteville including No. 1 Georgia, No. 2 Florida, No. 3 Arkansas and No. 4 Texas A&M. Mia Adams and Denisha Henix are tied for the Conference USA lead in the long jump at 19-9.5 (6.03m), with both marks set at Vanderbilt on Jan. 24. They will get a good test in the event as Georgia's Kendell Williams brings in the nation's best jump of the season at 21-5.5 (6.54m) into the meet.
Fans will be able to watch LA Tech in action during the Tyson Invitational as the second day of the competition (Saturday) will feature live streaming video on SEC Network+ and the WatchESPN App. Saturday's coverage will begin at 12 p.m.
In other action this weekend, select men's competitors will head to Baton Rouge to compete at the LSU High Performance Meet on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.
Live results for both meets will be available online at LATechSports.com.
