LA Tech Track & Field to Face Nation's Best at Tyson Invitational

RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech will face some of the nation's best track programs in the country - including the top-ranked teams on both the men's and women's side - as LA Tech competes at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark. in a two-day meet beginning on Friday.

The men's team will be facing nine teams ranked in the top 25 including host No. 1 Arkansas, No. 5 Wisconsin and No. 6 Florida State. Other ranked teams competing include No. 9 Nebraska, No. 13 Texas, No. 17 Mississippi State, No. 18 LSU, No. 23 Illinois and No. 24 Southern California.

The women's team will be facing seven programs ranked in the top 25 with No. 1 Texas and No. 6 Arkansas leading the way. LA Tech will also be facing No. 10 LSU, No. 11 Kansas, No. 14 South Carolina, No. 17 Mississippi State and No. 25 Baylor in the meet.

Louisiana Tech's men were recently ranked 48th in the nation in the most recent poll released by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) while the women's program moved up one spot in the South Central Regional rankings to eighth, a region that includes Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas.

Action at the Tyson Invitational gets underway on Friday with field events starting at 11 a.m. and running events starting at noon. The 60m hurdles are set to begin at 3 p.m. LSU's Jasmin Stowers and Baylor's Tiffani McReynolds are expected to provide the biggest challenge to Tech's Kim Francis in the event as Francis looks to reach the NCAA Indoor Championships in March.  

Saturday's action starts at noon in the field events with the women's shot put while the running events start at 1 p.m. with the 200m, an event Louisiana Tech will be featured in. On the men's side Trey Hadnot continues to improve on his already impressive time in the event. He will be challenged by Southern California's Aaron Brown and Tulsa Bryce Robinson in the event, both of which are ranked in the top 10 in the nation.
