@LATechTandF Qualifies Two for NCAA Indoor Championships

March 2, 2016

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Louisiana Tech had two student-athletes qualify for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships the NCAA announced Wednesday with Jermey Hicks in the 60m and Jarvis Gotch in the long jump heading to the national meet in Birmingham, Alabama.

Both Louisiana Tech student-athletes are making their first appearance at the NCAA Indoor Championships. The NCAA Indoor Championships take place on March 11-12 at the CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama, which was also the site of the 2016 C-USA Indoor Championships.

Hicks solidified his spot when he tied the Conference USA Championship record in the 60m dash with a time of 6.64 in the prelims. The New Orleans native would go on to win the gold medal in the finals, running 6.70. The 60m semifinals will begin at 6:30 p.m. CT on Friday, March 11 with the finals race set for 4:45 p.m. CT on Saturday, March 12.

Gotch’s qualifying mark came back in January when he jumped 25-10 (7.87m) in the long jump at the Vanderbilt Invitational. The trials and final rounds of the men’s long jump are slated to begin at 5:20 p.m. CT on Friday, March 11.

Louisiana Tech’s two men’s qualifying marks ranks second in Conference USA behind Western Kentucky’s three, matched with the two qualified from Middle Tennessee. Only Louisiana Tech, Middle Tennessee, UTEP and Western Kentucky qualified any student-athletes for the NCAA Indoor Championships this year on the men’s side.

Additionally, LA Tech’s two qualifying entries makes the program just one of three in Louisiana with athletes heading to the national championship meet alongside LSU and Southeastern Louisiana.

Both days of competition will be broadcast live on ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app.
