RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech's track and field program will host the annual Jim Mize Invitational Saturday at the Jim Mize Track & Field Facility on the Louisiana Tech campus.
It will be the first meet for Tech and for junior sprinter Trey Hadnot since the Ruston native recently finished third in the 200m at the NCAA Indoor Championships and was named first team All-America.
The Jim Mize Invitational is named after long time Louisiana Tech head track and field coach and assistant football coach Jim Mize. Mize coached football alongside Joe Aillet and Maxie Lambright for 24 years while also building a consistent track program through 1977. He won conference track titles in 1961, 1973 and 1974 and always had competitive teams.
Saturday's meet will include teams from Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Northwestern State and Stephen F. Austin, in addition to Louisiana Tech. Former Tech discus thrower and 2012 Olympian Jason Morgan will also compete.
Throwing events will begin at 10 a.m. with the men's hammer throw and continue through the women's and men's javelin throw at 3 p.m.
Running events will begin with the Terry Cross Memorial 4x100m Relay with the women's race at 2 p.m. and the men's race shortly thereafter.
