LA Tech Track & Field to Host Jim Mize Invitational Wednesday

RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech’s track and field teams are set to open the outdoor portion of its season Wednesday as the Bulldogs and Lady Techsters host the annual Jim Mize Invitational at the Jim Mize Track & Field Facility in Ruston.

The annual meet is set to begin at 4 p.m. Wednesday afternoon with field events, while the running events are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. that night. Northwestern State and UL-Monroe will also compete in the one-day invitational. Admission into the Jim Mize Track and Field Facility is free.

The action begins Wednesday afternoon when LA Tech’s Jordan Patrick, Isaac Samuels and Blake McMillian compete in the men’s discus throw, which is immediately followed by the women’s discus featuring Rhea Thompson, Shelby Bishop and Asia Abron. Thompson and Abron will also compete in the women’s shot put following the discus alongside Maggie Hermann, while Samuels and Jacob Cambre are set for the men’s shot put.

The jumps also begin at 4 p.m. Wednesday with the long jump and triple jump scheduled first, while the high jump is set to begin at approximately 5 p.m. that afternoon. Tamario Lattin will have a busy afternoon as he will represent the Bulldogs in the high jump, long jump and triple jump on Wednesday. Jordan Patrick will also compete in the triple jump, while Cambre is set to compete in the long jump.



Senior Chloe Lautric will compete in the women’s high jump with LA Tech sophomore Jasmine White, while, the Lady Techsters will have five women competing in the women’s long jump, including Nique’ Griffin, Dominique Lewis, Janiel McDonald, Maggie Hermann and Denisha Henix. McDonald and Lewis are also entered in the women’s triple jump.

The men’s and women’s pole vault is set to begin at approximately 5 p.m. with Daniel Sams, Gregory Ballard and Jordan Patrick representing LA Tech’s men, while the women’s pole vault will feature Alies Van Berkum and Michaela Wheeler.

LA Tech will begin the running events at 6 p.m. with the men’s and women’s 4x100-meter relay followed by the 1,500-meter run at 6:10 p.m., which will feature Kacie Kaufman on the women’s side and four Bulldogs, including Abdemir Rivera, Drake Heinz, Conner Killian and Scott Maggio.

The women’s 100-meter hurdles is set for 6:25 p.m. Wednesday and will see Janiel McDonald and Autym Scales competing for the Lady Techsters, while the men’s 110-meter hurdles will follow and feature LA Tech’s Jordan Patrick.

Beginning at approximately 6:40 p.m., the 400-meter and 100-meter dashes will start with Nique’ Griffin competing in the women’s 400-meter, while Darius Statham and Jaquvis Hart will race in the men’s 400-meter dash. Immediately following that, Maggie Hermann and Morgan White will compete in the women’s 100-meter dash, while Cambre will be featured on the men’s side.

Brandon Lewis-Graham will see his first action of the afternoon in the men’s 800-meter run alongside Drake Heinz, while Elia Nero and Quinci Middlebrooks will compete in the women’s 800-meter race at 7 p.m. Wednesday night.

In the 400-meter hurdles, LA Tech will be represented by Lanorris Graden on the men’s side and Autym Scales and Brandi Dobbin in the women’s competition. At 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Maggie Hermann and Ona Giles will face off in the women’s 200-meter dash, while the men’s 3,000-meter run is set for 7:40 p.m. and will feature Logan Pearce, Austin Ballow, Nathan Bolner and Manoah Kiptum.

To wrap up a busy afternoon and night, Louisiana Tech’s men and women will compete in the 4x400-meter relays, which begin at approximately 8:10 p.m. Wednesday evening.
