LA Tech Track & Field Heads to Lafayette for Weekend Meet

RUSTON, La. - It will be a quick turnaround for Louisiana Tech Track and Field as the teams are set to travel down south to compete in UL-Lafayette’s home invitational this weekend at the Ragin’ Cajuns Track Facility in Lafayette, Louisiana.
The two-day invitational hosted by UL-Lafayette begins Friday afternoon and runs through Saturday night. The Bulldogs and Lady Techsters are coming off first place finishes over ULM and Northwestern State in LA Tech’s own Jim Mize Invitational, which was held this past Wednesday at the Jim Mize Track & Field Facility in Ruston.
This weekend in Lafayette, LA Tech will compete in a total of 30 different field and running events with 15 scheduled for both the men’s and women’s teams. Louisiana Tech will compete against 12 other participating teams, including 10 fellow in-state opponents such as LSU, Tulane, McNeese State and UL-Monroe.
Louisiana Tech will have several student-athletes competing for the first time this outdoor season, including Camille Lott and Somer Miller in the women’s javelin alongside Maggie Hermann. In the men’s javelin event, LA Tech will be represented by Jacob Cambre, Jordan Patrick and Tyler Griggers.
The Bulldogs will have Gregory Ballard and Daniel Sams competing in the men’s pole vault, while LA Tech’s Alies Van Berkum is entered in the women’s pole vault after finishing first in the same event at Wednesday’s Jim Mize Invitational.
LA Tech will have five participants in the hammer throw with Blake McMillian representing the men, while Asia Abron, Anyi Garcia-Solis, Shelby Bishop and Morgan Keesee are entered on the women’s side. McMillian will also compete in the discus throw alongside Isaac Samuels and Cambre, while Abron, Bishop and Rhea Thompson are set to compete in the women’s discus on Saturday.
Tamario Lattin will compete in three events this weekend with the senior scheduled for the men’s high jump, long jump and triple jump. On the women’s side, LA Tech will have four entries for the long jump, including Nique’ Griffin, Morgan White, Dominique Lewis and Janiel McDonald. Jasmine White and Chloe Lautric will compete in Saturday’s women’s high jump, while Lewis and McDonald will also compete in the triple jump.
In the running events, LA Tech will have Michael Pratt competing in the men’s 200-meter dash on Friday. In the 1,500-meter run, Kacie Kaufman will represent the women, while Brandon Lewis-Graham and Nathan Bolner will compete on the men’s side.
Autym Scales is entered in the women’s 100-meter hurdles, while Jordan Patrick will compete in the men’s 110-meter hurdles on Saturday. In the 100-meter dash, Ona Giles and Morgan White will compete on the women’s side, while Jordan Patrick is entered in the men’s 100-meter dash on Saturday.
The 400-meter dash will feature four Lady Techsters in Brandi Dobbin, Elia Nero, Griffin and Hermann, while LA Tech will have four entries on the men’s side as well in Darius Statham, Jaquvis Hart, Lanorris Graden and Cambre.
