March 17, 2016
RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech's track and field program will open the 2016 outdoor season starting Friday when it hosts the Jim Mize Invitational at the Jim Mize Track and Field Facility in Ruston. Louisiana Tech headlines a meet that will also feature McNeese State, Northwestern State, Southern and UL-Monroe.
Tech's annual home meet this year features 21 athletes that advanced to the NCAA East Preliminary Championships last year including the Bulldogs' Jarrett Samuels, who garnered honorable mention All-America honors as he advanced to the NCAA Championships in the long jump.
Mia Adams, the LA Tech athlete that advanced to the NCAA East Prelims in both the 100m dash and the long jump last year, headlines a women's field that features 12 East Prelims participants from a year ago along with both of Louisiana Tech's relays.
Louisiana Tech sent three of its four relay teams to the East Prelims last year. When the running events start at 3 p.m. on Saturday, the race to watch will be the men's 4x100m relay with both Louisiana Tech and Northwestern State's squads challenging each other for supremacy in North Louisiana.
The meet begins with six events Friday evening as field events begin at 5 p.m. and running events starting at 7 p.m. The majority of the events take place on Saturday with field events starting at 11 a.m. and running events beginning at 3 p.m. Admission into the Jim Mize Track and Field Facility is free.
