DENVER - Louisiana Tech’s Kim Francis was named the Western Athletic Conference Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week for the week of March 11-17.
Francis, a junior from Lafayette, La. (Northside HS), ran a 13.53 to win the 100m hurdles at the Jim Mize Invitational last weekend. That mark currently ranks Francis first in the WAC and sixth in the nation and marks her best season-opening time in the 100m hurdles in her career.
A three-time WAC Champion and nine-time All-WAC athlete, Francis was an NCAA semifinalist in the hurdles in 2011 and an NCAA qualifier in the hurdles in 2011 and 2012.
Francis will lead Louisiana Tech this weekend in Starkville, Miss. as Tech received a special invitation to field a team in the SEC-B1G (Big Ten) Challenge hosted by Mississippi State.
Tech will compete against a field that includes Illinois, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Purdue, Tennessee and Wisconsin.
