Louisiana Tech Sweeps WAC Track Athlete of the Week Awards

March 23, 2010

DENVER - Louisiana Tech's Chasidee Lewis-Baker and Demonte Willis were named the women's and men's Western Athletic Conference Track Athletes of the Week the conference office announced Tuesday afternoon. Both athletes won their races at the Jim Mize Invitational on Saturday.

Both sprinters earned their first WAC weekly honor of the season as Louisiana Tech began its outdoor season.

Lewis-Baker, a junior from Alexandria, La. (Alexandria HS), won the 100-meter dash at the Jim Mize Invitational on Saturday with a time of 11.84 seconds. Lewis-Baker is the only WAC athlete to run a sub-12.00 time in the conference so far this year. The Alexandria High School product also ran the opening leg of the 4x100m relay team that won at the Jim Mize Invitational with a time of 46.24, a mark that stands about a second and a half ahead of any other WAC relay team.

Willis, a redshirt sophomore from Homer, La. (Homer HS), won the 400 meters with a time of 48.07 seconds at the Jim Mize Invitational on Saturday. The mark is first in the WAC this season. The Homer High School product also ran the opening leg of the 4x400m relay team that won that race with a time of 3:15.05, also the fastest time among WAC schools this season. The redshirt sophomore's performance helped the Bulldogs defeat Southeastern Louisiana and Arkansas-Pine Bluff in a double dual meet scored in Ruston, La.

Louisiana Tech returns to the track on March 26-27 when Tech travels to Baton Rouge, La. for the LSU Relays.
