LA Tech Track & Field Hits the Road for Victor Lopez Classic

HOUSTON - Louisiana Tech Track and Field is gearing up for another road meet this weekend as the men and women travel to Houston to compete in the 35th annual Victor Lopez Classic, which is hosted by Rice on March 24-25 at the Wendel D. Ley Track Complex.
Louisiana Tech will compete in an impressive 29-team field this weekend as a total of 32 Bulldogs and Lady Techsters will be in action with 16 men and 16 women scheduled to compete in a variety of events.
Starting on the women’s side, Louisiana Tech will have five student-athletes competing in running events, beginning with Kacie Kaufman who will compete in the 1,500-meter run Friday evening. Morgan White is entered in the 100-meter dash on Friday before competing in the long jump Saturday morning.
Elia Nero will race in the 400-meter dash Saturday afternoon, followed by Brandi Dobbin in the 400-meter hurdles and Ona Giles in the 200-meter dash to wrap up the women’s running events for the Lady Techsters.
Louisiana Tech has 11 women in action in the field events in addition to White as Asia Abron and Rhea Thompson will compete in the shot put and discus on Saturday, while Maggie Hermann is also entered in the shot put and the javelin. Hermann will be joined by Camille Lott and Somer Miller in the javelin event Saturday afternoon.
LA Tech’s men will have three entries in the 400-meter dash on Saturday with Jacob Cambre, Jaquvis Hart and Jordan Patrick will compete for the Bulldogs. Patrick will also compete in the 110-meter hurdles at 11 a.m. Saturday morning.
Darius Statham is set to compete in the 200-meter dash on Saturday, while Lanorris Graden is entered in the men’s 400-meter hurdles. In the men’s 1,500-meter run, Conner Killian will represent the Bulldogs, while both Austin Ballow and Drake Heinz will compete in the 5,000-meter run on the men’s side. In the final running event on the men’s side, Manoah Kiptum is set to race in the 10,000-meter run on Friday night.
In the jumps, LA Tech will be represented by Craig Jones and Tamario Lattin, while Cambre, Patrick, Blake McMillian and Isaac Samuels will compete in the discus. McMillian will also compete in the hammer throw, while Cambre and Samuels are set for the shot put event as well.
Tyler Griggers will be LA Tech’s lone representative in the men’s javelin, while Gregory Ballard and Daniels Sams are entered in the men’s pole vault on Saturday afternoon to close out the field events on the men’s side.
For fan attending the Victor Lopez Classic, Tickets are $5 for 3-16 years old and $10 for 17 years and older each day. Credit cards will not be accepted at the gate.
