March 28, 2011

RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech's Jim Mize Track and Field Facility will once again play host to some of the nation's best track and field talent as Tech hosts the annual Jim Mize Invitational Saturday. Throwing events begin at 2 p.m. with running events starting at 4 p.m.

After a strong opening weekend at the LSU Relays in Baton Rouge, Louisiana Tech enters a strong group of competitors for its annual home meet this weekend, led by senior thrower Larry Jones. Jones is currently ranked ninth in the nation after a personal record throw of 57-10.25 in Baton Rouge. Jones can be seen in the shot put starting at 3:45 p.m. with the women's throwers starting off, followed by the men's.

Freshman Kim Francis enters the weekend ranked 20th in the nation after running 13.51 in the 100m hurdles just a month after winning a conference championship in the 60m hurdles indoors. Tiana Davis is also ranked nationally in the hurdles, coming in at 28th after running 13.65. Davis is also ranked 20th in the long jump with a leap of 19-8.75 over the weekend. Davis will be jumping at 2:45 and will join Francis in the hurdles at 4:20 p.m.

The men's 4x100m relay team will cap off the Jim Mize Invitational with a 6:50 p.m. start time, entering the race ranked 20th in the nation. The relay team of Dennis Richardson, Kevin Stewart, Josh Goree and Trey Hadnot ran 40.60 last weekend in Baton Rouge and looks to improve upon that mark this weekend.
