RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech will head to the Sunshine State this week to face several ranked teams as action at the Pepsi Florida Relays on April 2-4 at Percy Beard Track in Gainesville, Fla.
LA Tech will face eight teams ranked in the top 25 on the men's side while the women will compete against seven teams ranked in the top 25 with the host Gators ranked No. 2 in both the men's and women's rankings. In all, the Pepsi Florida Relays will be host to over 75 collegiate teams from coast-to-coast including top-10 programs such as Florida State, Georgia, Kentucky and Southern California.
Conference USA will have five representatives at the meet including Western Kentucky, currently ranked No. 25 on the men's side. The team rankings are currently the preseason rankings issued by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) with the first regular season rankings due out next week.
Highlighting Louisiana Tech's contingent will be the men's 4x100m relay team of Jarvis Gotch, Jermey Hicks, Devin Henderson and Darius Statham, currently ranked ninth in the nation and 19th in the world. That squad ran 39.94 in the Texas Relays Invitational 4x100m race last week at the Texas Relays, finishing as the top collegiate team beating relay squads from Texas, Houston and Texas Tech.
The women's 4x100m relay team of Bianca Jackson, Charla Craddock, Mia Adams and Brittany Walker is currently ranked 17th in the nation after running 45.18 to finish fifth at the Texas Relays. Jackson is also on the 4x200m relay that ran the ninth-fastest time in school history last week with both women's relays set to compete against the nation's best this week in Gainesville.
Both of Louisiana Tech's men's and women's 4x100m relays lead Conference USA as does the women's 4x400m relay after running 3:41.25 at the Texas Relays.
A pair of Bulldogs also lead C-USA as Jarrett Samuels' long jump mark of 24-6.5 (7.48m) is first in the conference and 12th in the nation while Jermey Hicks' 200m time of 20.93 leads the league and is 24th in the nation.
