LA Tech T&F Makes Short Trip to Monroe for ULM Warhawk Classic

April 13, 2018

MONROE, La. - Louisiana Tech Track & Field will travel 30 minutes down I-20 on Saturday as the Bulldogs and Lady Techsters get set to compete in the ULM Warhawk Classic this weekend in Monroe.

The outdoor meet is being held at Groseclose Track on ULM's campus in Monroe. With the exception of a handful of field events being held Friday, the majority of events will begin on Saturday morning in Monroe. Included in Friday's field events was the men's hammer throw competition which saw LA Tech's Malek Evans set a new school record. This marks the second week in a row that a Bulldog has broken a long-standing men's school record after Gregory Ballard set a new school mark in the pole vault a week ago at the SFA Carl Kight Invitational.

"We are looking forward to competing in Monroe tomorrow," head coach Gary Stanley, who is in his 36th overall year at Louisiana Tech, said ahead of Saturday's meet. "We will be holding several athletes out this weekend as we are competing in a huge meet next week in Baton Rouge, but overall, we are excited to get some work in."

Field events are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday morning with the javelin, pole vault and long jump, while the remaining field events are set to continue throughout the afternoon. On Saturday afternoon, the running events are scheduled to get underway with the men's and women's 4x100m relays, while the remaining races will continue on throughout the day, concluding with the 4x400m relays for men and women at 4:50 p.m.

On Saturday, Louisiana Tech's student-athletes will compete in a total of 30 combined events, including 16 on the men's side and 14 for the Lady Techsters.
