May 16, 2013
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Louisiana Tech's track and field program netted a total of 16 qualifying entries into the 2013 NCAA East Preliminary Track and Field Championships, including three relays, as the NCAA released the East and West Prelims Declared Athletes list Thursday.
The top 48 individual marks and top 24 relay times qualify for the NCAA East Prelims which will be hosted by North Carolina A&T and take place on May 23-25, 2013 at Irwin Belk Track in Greensboro, N.C.
The men's and women's programs made its final push for NCAA qualification last week at the Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships where all but three of the qualifying marks were set.
On the men's side Ruston, La. native Trey Hadnot leads the Bulldogs with entries in the 200m and as part of the 4x100m relay. A junior, Hadnot was named the WAC Male Track Athlete of the Year after winning four gold medals on the last day of the WAC Championships. His outstanding final day performance included overcoming a 30m deficit as the anchor (last) leg of the 4x400m relay to claim gold with a 45.7 split. His gold medal winning time of 20.49 in the 200m currently ranks fourth in the East Prelims and 18th in the world this season.
Hadnot joins Devin Henderson, Niko Richey and Kyonz Smith on the qualifying 4x100m relay team with Henderson and Richey competing in other events as well. Richey will join Hadnot in the 200m while Henderson, after claiming silver in the triple jump with a mark of 50-2.5 (15.30m), will jump at the East Prelims.
On the women's side, Kim Francis qualified in the 100m hurdles and as part of the 4x100m relay. A native of Lafayette, La., Francis became the first Tech hurdler to run a sub-13.00 time in the 100m hurdles as she won gold at the WAC Championships. Her time of 12.95 in the hurdles is a school record and currently ranks 12th in the world.
Charla Craddock leads all Tech athletes with three qualifying marks, two of which come in the relays. Craddock is the second leg runner in the 4x100m relay that won gold at the WAC Championships with a time of 44.99 while the 4x400m relay, which also won gold at the WAC Championships, is led off by Craddock. A sophomore, Craddock will also compete in the long jump after her season best mark of 19-11 (6.07m) was set at the Jim Mize Invitational in Ruston on March 16.
The Lady Techsters have three entries in the shot put with senior Marcella LeBlanc leading the way after she won the silver medal at the WAC Championships with a throw of 52-3.75 (15.94m), ranking her 17th in the East. Fellow senior Micara Vassell is slated at 23rd in the East after a throw of 50-10.75 (15.51m) qualified her for NCAA postseason competition while SaBrittany Angelle qualified with a throw of 48-8.75 (14.85m).
