@LATechTandF Receives 16 Qualifying Entries to NCAA East Prelims

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) announced qualifiers for the NCAA East and West Preliminary Championships Thursday with Louisiana Tech receiving 16 entries to the NCAA East Prelims.
The 16 entries recorded by LA Tech marks three more than last year and a total of 113 qualifying entries since 2010. Louisiana Tech ranks fourth in Conference USA in NCAA Preliminary Championship entry marks this season. UTEP and Western Kentucky each led the league with 23 qualifying entries.
Jarrett Samuels is the top qualifier on the men's side as he ranks 10th entering the NCAA East Prelims with a jump of 25-2.5 (7.68m) set at the Conference USA Championships. The men's 4x100m relay closely follows as they enter the NCAA East Prelims ranked 11th as they ran an altitude-adjusted time of 39.94 at the C-USA Championships.
The women's team registered 12 qualifying entries with the 4x100m relay team leading the way ranked 15th among the East entries. LA Tech's women ran a season-best time of 44.76 (altitude-adjusted) at the Conference USA Championships to claim the bronze medal in El Paso, Texas last week. Charla Craddock follows and leads the individual entries from the women's side as she enters ranked 19th in the 200m with a time of 23.41 which she ran at the Horned Frog Invitational in Fort Worth, Texas on May 2.
The women's 4x400m relay- ranked 19th - also qualified after running an altitude-adjusted time of 3:37.09 at the C-USA Championships to win the gold medal.
The women's long jumpers dominated the entries as that event is responsible for five of LA Tech's 12 entries on the women's side. Both Mia Adams and Charla Craddock qualified in multiple events including the long jump with Adams qualifying in the 100m and Craddock in the 200m. Adams and Craddock also both run on the 4x100m relay and 4x400m relays.
The top 48 individual marks and top 24 relay marks recorded on each side (East and West) throughout the season qualify for the NCAA Preliminary Championships. Louisiana Tech will compete at the East Prelims held in Jacksonville, Florida on May 28-30. The West Prelims will be held in Austin, Texas on the same dates.
