GREENSBORO, N.C. - Louisiana Tech Track and Field continues postseason competition Thursday as Tech has 20 athletes competing in 16 events at the 2013 NCAA East Preliminary Championships at Irwin Belk Track in Greensboro, N.C.
Trey Hadnot enters the outdoor postseason with a chance on improving on his indoor performance earlier in the year. During the indoor season Hadnot ran a school record time of 20.48 to finish third at the NCAA Championships, claiming first team All-America honors. Now in the outdoor season, he is coming off a WAC gold medal in the 200m where he ran 20.49 and was named the WAC Male Track Athlete of the Year.
Hadnot not only leads a squad of seven men's entries this week but also leads a group of Ruston, La. products for the Bulldogs. Joshua Cox, a product of Cedar Creek High School, has qualified for the NCAA East Prelims for the second straight year in the javelin.
Cox set a school record javelin throw of 223-11 (68.26m) as he won gold at the WAC Championships and is looking forward to his first NCAA postseason competition after an injury prevented him from competing last year.
On the women's side, Kim Francis became the first Tech hurdler to run under the 13.00 mark as her school record of 12.95 in the 100m hurdles claimed a gold medal at the WAC Championships. She heads to Greensboro slated for both the 100m hurdles and the 4x100m relay.
Charla Craddock leads the Lady Techsters with three qualifying entries at this year's NCAA East Prelims, competing in the long jump and as a member of both the 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams.
Action begins on Thursday, May 23 at 4 p.m. CT/5 p.m. ET with the men's 400m hurdles and will conclude on Saturday, May 25 at 8:25 p.m. CT/9:25 p.m. ET with the women's 4x400m relay quarterfinal round.
