RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech's track and field programs have qualified 25 student-athletes to compete in this week's NCAA East Preliminary Championships beginning on May 27 at the Irwin Belk Track Complex in Greensboro, N.C.
NCAA Track and Field is entering the first year of the new postseason format where there are two preliminary championship sites and the top 48 athletes in each event qualify for the postseason and the top 24 relays qualify. The top 12 marks in each event at the preliminary championships will advance to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore. on June 9-13.
The NCAA designated Louisiana Tech to compete in the NCAA East Preliminary Championships in Greensboro, N.C. The rest of the teams in the Western Athletic Conference will compete at the NCAA West Preliminary Championships in Austin, Texas on the same dates.
The Lady Techsters are coming off their sixth consecutive WAC Outdoor Championship and have qualified 13 athletes in individual events and both the 4x100m and 4x400m relays. The women's program is led by redshirt senior Antoinette Cobb who won her fifth WAC title this year with a school record time of 13.07 in the 100m hurdles.
