May 24, 2017
LEXINGTON, Ky. - Louisiana Tech Track and Field has qualified three entries into the 2017 NCAA East Preliminary Track and Field Championships, which will be held this week in Lexington, Kentucky.
LA Tech will be represented by Tamario Lattin (high jump), Chloe Lautric (high jump) and Janiel McDaniel (long jump) at this weekend's NCAA East Preliminary events. In each event, the top 12 finishers will advance to the NCAA Division I Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., on June 7-9.
The 2017 NCAA East Preliminary Championships are set to begin Thursday, May 25 and run through Saturday, May 27. Events will be held at the Kentucky Outdoor Track and Field Facility.
Janiel McDonald is set to get the weekend started as she will compete in the women's long jump at 7:15 p.m. Thursday evening. During the outdoor season, McDonald finished inside the top 10 on five different occasions, including a season-best long jump of 20-0.25 (6.10m) to finish in first place at the Stephen F. Austin Invitational in early April.
On Friday, Chloe Lautric will compete in the women's high jump at 4:30 p.m. in the afternoon in what will be her fourth appearance in the NCAA Outdoor preliminaries. Lautric has eight top five finishes during the outdoor season, including three first place finishes and a silver medal at last week's C-USA Championships where she earned seven points with a season-best jump of 5-8 (1.73m) to earn second place.
LA Tech will wrap up the weekend on Saturday with Tamario Lattin scheduled to compete in the men's high jump at 6 p.m. that evening. In three high jump events this season, Lattin finished in first place twice and second once, but it was his second-place finish that was a season-best for Lattin after he notched a jump of 6-9.75 (2.08m) at the ULL Classic in March.
