@LATechTandF Heads to NCAA East Prelims

RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech opens competition at the NCAA East Preliminary Championships with five student-athletes competing in six events when action begins Thursday at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida.

Jermey Hicks qualified in both the 100m and the 200m. The Villa, Louisiana native’s 100m time of 10.23 ranks sixth in the East while he ranks 30th in the East in the 200m with a time of 20.82.

Tramaine Maloney ran 13.80 in the 110m hurdles and will be ranked 13th in the East in the hurdles race next week in Jacksonville while Jarrett Samuels jumped 24-7.25 (7.50m) to qualify for the East prelims, ranked 45th. Last season Samuels advanced out of the East prelims to the NCAA Championships, garnering Honorable Mention All-America honors.

On the women’s side, Mia Adams enters the East prelims as her long jump of 20-7 (6.27m) ranks her 21st in the East. Chloe Lautric’s season best mark of 5-8.75 (1.75m) ranks her 45th in the East.

The NCAA East Preliminary Championships begin on Thursday, May 26 at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville with opening rounds in the 100m dash and the men’s and women’s long jumps. Friday, May 26 will see the 200m dash, 110m hurdles and high jumps competed with the quarterfinal rounds in all track races set for Saturday, May 27.

The top 48 individual marks and top 24 relay marks on each side qualify for the preliminary championships with the East prelims held in Jacksonville and the West prelims held in Lawrence, Kansas. The top 12 marks on each side will advance to the NCAA Championships hosted in Eugene, Oregon in June.

This year’s qualifiers marks a total of 119 qualifying entries Louisiana Tech has produced since the east and west preliminary championship format began in 2010.
