RUSTON, La. - Qualified Louisiana Tech student-athletes continue their drive to Eugene and the NCAA Championships beginning Thursday as the NCAA East Preliminary Championships begin at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida.

The top 48 individuals and top 24 relays in the East qualify for the preliminary round on May 28-30 in the event hosted by North Florida with a chance to advance to the NCAA Championships on the line. The top 12 in each event will move on to Eugene, Oregon.

LA Tech's women's long jump leads the way with five qualifying entries ranking tied for seventh in the nation for one team's total entries in one event in both the East and West prelims and the most of any field event.

Both Mia Adams and Charla Craddock are scheduled to compete in four events - long jump, 4x100m relay and 4x400m relay with Adams entered in the 100m dash while Craddock will run in the 200m. Adams will be the first to hit the track as the 100m opening round runs at 6:30 p.m. ET/5:30 p.m. CT Thursday with the quarterfinal round set for Friday (the two rounds in Eugene are considered the semifinals and finals).

The 4x100m relay, which also consists of Brittany Walker and Victoria Wade, is the top-ranked women's entry at 15th in the East but will have to wait until Saturday evening to run. The five long jumpers also will have to wait with the women's long jump round scheduled for Friday at 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT.

Jarrett Samuels leads LA Tech's men's entries as the 10th-ranked long jumper in the East and will compete on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT. Joshua Cox, who advanced to last season's NCAA Championships out of the East Prelims in the javelin, ranks 44th in the East this year and will need a big throw to advance for a second consecutive year. Cox will get his chance on Friday at Noon ET/11 a.m. CT.
