Louisiana Tech Track and Field Sends Four to NCAA Championships

RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech's track and field programs continue their postseason run this week as Tech sends four athletes to compete at the 2011 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on the campus of Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.
Tech is lead by long jumper Chelsea Hayes on the women's side. The New Orleans native recorded the nation's best long jump mark in the preliminary rounds at the NCAA East Preliminary Championships in Bloomington, Ind. with a LA Tech school record jump of 21-4 (6.50m).
Ruston native Larry Jones leads the men's side after setting a personal record in the shot put with a throw of 187-10 (57.26m) at the NCAA East Preliminary Championships. Jones, a three-time Western Athletic Conference Champion in the discus, Jones is one of two Ruston High School products to head to this year's NCAA Championships.
The other Ruston product headed to Des Moines is freshman Trey Hadnot. Hadnot qualified in the 200m after running 21.19 at the NCAA East Prelims, finishing 10th in the region.
Monique Wright qualified in the 400m after running a season best time of 53.51 in the quarterfinal round at the East prelims. Wright improved upon her 54.36 time in the opening round to move forward.
