LA Tech’s Morgan Keesee Earns C-USA Postgraduate Scholarship
June 20, 2018
IRVING, Texas - Louisiana Tech Track & Field student-athlete Morgan Keesee has been announced as one of 14 recipients of the Jim Castañeda Postgraduate Scholarship Awards, Conference USA announced Wednesday.
This is the 10th year the award has been named for Dr. Castañeda, who served Rice University for 46 years as an educator, coach and Faculty Athletics Representative before he passed away in November 2008. The conference annually awards the $4,000 Postgraduate Scholarships to graduates as selected by the C-USA Faculty Athletics Representatives and approved by the Board of Directors.
Keesee, who was a four-year letterwinner for the Lady Techsters in throwing events, was also named the University’s recipient of the C-USA Spirit of Service Award for the winter and was featured on this year’s All-Academic squad with a 4.0 GPA in kinesiology and health promotion. The Parkville, Missouri, native has also been honored four times as a C-USA Academic Medalist and named to the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll on four occasions. She has also been named to LA Tech’s AD Honor Roll three times.
This season, Keesee won the hammer throw competition with a first-place mark of 169-3 (51.59m) at the ULM Warhawk Classic, while she finished in the top 10 in throwing events in 10 of the 11 meets she participated in during the 2018 season. She placed in the top five on six different occasions. Keesee also recorded a personal-best throw of 57-3.5 (17.46m) to finish fourth in the weight throw at USA Invitational during the indoor campaign. She currently ranks in the top 10 in LA Tech history in the women’s weight throw (indoor) and the hammer throw (outdoor).
Keesee earned a degree in clinical kinesiology with a perfect 4.0 GPA and will pursue a doctorate of physical therapy at Rockhurst University.
