RUSTON, La. - USA Track and Field officials announced Thursday that Louisiana Tech's Trey Hadnot has been selected for the U.S. Junior National Team this summer, competing in the 200m dash. Hadnot was originally an alternate after placing third at the USA Track and Field Championships.

Hadnot, a four-time WAC Champion and the 2011 WAC Male Track Athlete of the Year, will compete for the USA on July 22-24 at the 2011 Pan Am Junior Championships in Mirimar, Fla.

"This is just another example of the great sprint program we have put together over the years on our men's and women's teams led by the efforts of Shawn Jackson," said Louisiana Tech head track and field coach Gary Stanley. "We are very glad Trey will be representing Louisiana Tech and the City of Ruston on the world stage."

The Ruston native set a personal record in the 200m finals with a time of 20.80 to finish third and become an alternate. Texas A&M's Prezel Hardy is unable to compete, allowing Hadnot to claim a spot on the U.S. Junior National Team. He also has a chance to run on the 4x400m relay for the USA.

Only the top two athletes in each event at the USA Track and Field Championships qualify for the U.S. National Team with third-place serving as an alternate. Hadnot is one of only three athletes from a non-BCS Division I school to make the U.S. Junior National Team and the first Louisiana Tech sprinter to do so since Tomas Alexander did so as a freshman in 1999.

"His performance at the USA Track and Field Championships on track and field's biggest stage - historic Heyward Field in Eugene, Oregon - was impressive and made even more so by setting a personal record. I thought he handled himself really well in that environment."

Hadnot has recorded a spectacular freshman year for Louisiana Tech, advancing to the finals at the USA Jr. Track and Field Championships, the semifinals at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, a four-time WAC Champion, a six-time all-WAC athlete and was named the 2011 Outdoor WAC Male Track Athlete of the Year as well as the 2011 Outdoor WAC Male Freshman of the Year.
