RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech head track and field coach Gary Stanley announced the programs 2014 indoor and outdoor schedules Wednesday. In all, LA Tech will compete in 11 regular season indoor and outdoor meets in four states while the postseason will send LA Tech from coast to coast.
The 2014 indoor schedule will consist of five regular season meets while seven regular season meets make up the outdoor schedule.
The indoor campaign will kickoff on Jan. 10-11, 2014 when LA Tech will make the first of three trips to Birmingham, Ala. for the UAB Blazer Invitational. The following weekend, it will be Tech vs. the Lone Star State as the Bulldogs and Lady Techsters will compete at the Texas A&M 10 Team Invitational as the only team from outside of Texas competing. LA Tech will face Texas powers such as Texas A&M, Baylor and SMU along with Conference USA foes Rice and UTSA.
LA Tech returns to Birmingham on Jan. 30 to compete in the Southern Miss-hosted KMS Invitational and then rounds out the indoor regular season on Feb. 14-15 at the prestigious Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., hosted by the University of Arkansas.
The last of three trips to Birmingham will come on Feb. 28 - March 1 when LA Tech will compete at the Conference USA Championships. Athletes that qualify will advance to the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 14-15 in Albuquerque, N.M.
The outdoor season will begin at home as LA Tech hosts the Jim Mize Invitational on March 22 at the Jim Mize Track and Field Complex on the Louisiana Tech campus in Ruston. The following weekend, the team will compete in a pair of split squad meets with part of the group heading to the Texas Relays on March 27-29 in Austin, Texas and the other group competing in the Bayou Classic hosted by Rice in Houston.
LA Tech will then compete at the SFA Invitational in Nagocdoches, Texas on the campus of Stephen F. Austin University on April 4-5 before heading out in the west Texas town of El Paso to compete at the UTEP Invitational on April 12.
The Bulldogs and Lady Techsters will return to Louisiana for one final meet in the Pelican State on April 19 when Tech heads down to Baton Rouge for the LSU Alumni Gold. The regular season will come to a close on April 25 when LA Tech competes at the Bobcat Classic hosted by Texas State.
The Conference USA Outdoor Championships will be in Houston on May 15-18 hosted by Rice University. Qualifying athletes will compete at the NCAA East Prelims on May 29-31 in Jacksonville, Fla. and those advancing out of the prelims will compete at the NCAA Championships on June 11-14 in Eugene, Ore.
