2011 Track and Field Schedule

RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech head track and field coach Gary Stanley announced the program's 2011 schedule Thursday with a trio of indoor meets and seven outdoor meets on tap.

The 2011 season marks Gary Stanley's 23rd season as head coach of Louisiana Tech's track program and 28th at the school overall.

Louisiana Tech's indoor season will kickoff on Jan. 14 at the Leonard Hilton Invitational in Houston and will then continue on Jan. 22 at the Arkansas State Invitational in Jonesboro, Ark. Tech will compete in the prestigious Tyson Invitational on Feb. 11-12 in Fayetteville, Ark. before heading to Boise, Idaho on Feb. 24-26 for the WAC Indoor Championships. If any athletes qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships, they will head back up to Fayetteville on March 11-12.

Tech will open the outdoor schedule on March 18-19 at the Louisiana Classics hosted by Louisiana-Lafayette and will head back down to south Louisiana on March 25-26 for the LSU Relays. Louisiana Tech will host the annual Jim Mize Invitational on Saturday, April 2 with running events expected to begin following the conclusion of the spring football game. Tech will challenge national powers at the Texas Relays on April 7-19 and then complete in the Northwestern State Invitational on April 16 in Natchitoches.

Once again this season, LA Tech will compete in the LSU Alumni Gold Meet in Baton Rouge on April 23 as a tune-up for the Drake Relays, set for April 29-30 in Des Moines, Iowa. That meet will be a precursor to the NCAA Championships, which will be hosted by Drake on June 8-11.

Before advancing to the NCAAs, LA Tech will first defend its six-consecutive WAC outdoor titles at the WAC Outdoor Championships in Honolulu, Hawaii on May 10-13. Athletes wanting to advance to Des Moines must also qualify for and advance from the NCAA East Preliminary Championships in Bloomington, Ind. on May 27-28.
