Men Place First, Women Fourth at Allstate Sugar Bowl Cross Country Festival

NEW ORLEANS - The Louisiana Tech men’s cross country team took home the top spot at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Cross Country Festival while the women placed fourth in the competition, which was hosted by Loyola-New Orleans at Lafreniere Park this past Saturday.

In the season-opening meet, LA Tech’s men beat out Tulane, Mississippi Valley State and Jacksonville State in the final NCAA standings, while seven runners finished in the top 25 individually, including three in the top 10.

For the men, Manoah Kiptum was the top finisher for Louisiana Tech with a time of 14:26.6 to place third overall in the individual results on Saturday. In addition to Kiptum, LA Tech had two more top 10 finishes on the men’s side with Logan Pearce (14:57.4) and Austin Ballow (15:01.1) placing seventh and ninth, respectively.

On the women’s side, sophomore Kacie Kaufman led the way with a seventh place finish on Saturday morning with an individual time of 18:00.2. Elia Nero and Hayley Berg also notched top 20 finishes for the women with Nero placing 12th with a time of 18:16.2 and Berg finishing 18:43.9.

LA Tech returns to action Saturday, Sept. 17, when the team hosts its home meet, the Mook Triple-Duals, at Tech Farm in Ruston.
