Cross Country Men Finish Fourth, Women Fifth at Aggieland Open

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Louisiana Tech’s Manoah Kiptum came in second overall on men’s side, while the men’s team finished fourth and the women fifth this weekend at the Texas A&M Aggieland Open in College Station.
As a team, the men finished with an average time of 27:00 to finish in fourth overall in the competition behind Stephen F. Austin, Sam Houston State and Texas A&M. On the women’s side, Stephen F. Austin completed the sweep for the Lumberjacks on the day, while LA Tech finished fifth behind Texas A&M, Sam Houston State and Baylor with an average time of 21:42.
The Bulldogs had two runners finish in the top 10 with Kiptum leading the way for the third consecutive meet with a time of 25:01 to place second in the 8,000-meter course. Freshman Austin Ballow was the second LA Tech runner to finish out the meet on the men’s side with a time of 25:55 to place eighth individually.
Sophomore Brandon Lewis-Graham and senior Logan Pearce finished back-to-back in 30th and 31st place with times of 27:45 and 27:49, respectively, while Abde Rivera finished the meet in the top 40 with a time of 28:32 to place 38th in the race.
The LA Tech women’s squad was led by Kacie Kaufman who posted a top 25 finish in the 5,000-meter race with a time of 20:12 in College Station. Elia Nero (20:36) and Hayley Berg (21:27) finished in 32nd and 40th, respectively, out of more than 60 runners in the competition.
Both LA Tech’s men and women’s cross country teams return to action Friday, Oct. 14 at the Crimson Classic, hosted by Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
