RUSTON, La. - The Louisiana Tech women’s cross country team will compete in their second meet of the season Friday as they travel to Clinton, Miss. for the Watson Ford Invitational, while the men travel to Fayetteville, Ark. on Saturday to compete in the Chile Pepper Invitational.
The men’s squad is coming off a third place finish at the McNeese Cowboy Stampede last Saturday. Senior Paul Sakit will be looking for his third consecutive top 10 finish heading into the weekend. Head coach Gary Stanley said he is looking forward to the high competition his Bulldogs will face on Saturday.
“The Chile Pepper Invitational is hosted by the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville on a dedicated Cross Country course,” Stanley said. “This is one of the top collegiate races in the country. It is going to be a stiff competition but I do believe our guys are ready to run much better than they did at McNeese where I was disappointed in the overall outcome.”
On the women’s side, the Lady Techsters added Jayde Hughes to the roster, a runner who Stanley said will be a nice addition for Friday’s race.
“We recently picked up Jayde Hughes and that is going to help us a little bit,” Stanley said. “I also feel like Mary Kate Hayes had a good week of practice and she can have another fine performance.”
Friday’s Watson Ford Invitational is set to begin at 4:30 p.m. in Clinton, Miss., while the Chile Pepper Invitational will commence at 9:45 a.m. Saturday morning in Fayetteville.
