Louisiana Tech Sweeps WAC Cross Country Runner of the Week Accolades

DENVER - Louisiana Tech's Alwayne Green and Mary Kate Hays have been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference men's and women's Cross Country Athletes of the Week, respectively, for Oct. 17-23.

Green, a junior from Oxford, Jamaica (Manchester HS), won the Demon Invitational Friday with a three-mile time of 15:15.5 to claim Louisiana Tech's first individual title in a men's cross country meet this year. Green's top time helped pace Louisiana Tech to a team win as well.

Hays, a sophomore from Baton Rouge, La. (The Dunham School), led the Lady Techsters at the Demon Invitational Friday with a three-mile time of 21:23.4. She was the team's top finisher with a 16th place finish, helping the team to third place.

Louisiana Tech heads to the 2011 WAC Cross Country Championships this Saturday, Oct. 29, hosted by the University of Hawaii in Honolulu.
