RUSTON, La. - The Louisiana Tech men’s and women’s cross country teams will travel to Denton, Texas this Saturday, Nov. 2 for the Conference USA Championships hosted by the University of North Texas.
The championships will be held at Eagle Point Cross Country Course, on the campus of North Texas. The 8K men’s race will kick off a 9 a.m., while the women’s 5K race is set for 10 a.m.
The men are coming off an impressive finish at the Crimson Classic in Tuscaloosa, Ala. where junior Paul Sakit finished 26th overall, and the Bulldogs swept all in-state foes. Coming into the conference meet, LA Tech is ranked 15th in the South Central Region in the USTFCCCA Regional Polls. That marks the first time this season the Bulldogs have entered the regional rankings.
Tulsa is ranked second in the Midwest Region, Rice (sixth) and North Texas (eighth) stand above Tech in the South Central Region, UTEP is ranked 12th in the Mountain Region while Middle Tennessee is ranked 15th in the South Region.
Tulsa enters the meet having won the last three C-USA titles on the men’s side while a new women’s team champion will be crowned as SMU, winners of the past two women’s titles, is now a member of the American Athletic Conference.
The Lady Techsters are coming off a fifth place finish at the Demon Invitational led by senior Mary Kate Hays who finished fourth overall. Hays has placed in the top five of all events this season but Saturday’s meet will be her toughest test of the year.
