LITTLE ROCK - Louisiana Tech (1-3) scored six runs in the fifth inning to propel the Bulldogs to a 6-3 win over UALR (2-2) and earn their first win of the season Tuesday night at Gary Hogan Field in Little Rock, Ark.

Tech trailed 2-0 before plating six runs off three hits and two errors in the fifth to take the lead 6-2. The Trojans would add one more run in the sixth to conclude their scoring for the night.

"I thought we pitched extremely well tonight and defended well," head coach Wade Simoneaux said. "We are starting to swing the bats better. We had one big inning where we scored all our runs. I thought the five guys we pitched did an outstanding job for us."

Right hander Omar Ugarte (1-0) earned the win after allowing one run off one hit and striking out four in two innings pitched in relief of starter Ben Carlisle. Caleb Dudley (1) received the save after coming on in the ninth to face three UALR batters.

Chad Bradford was tabbed with the loss for UALR after giving up six earned runs off three hits in 4.1 innings of work. Eight Trojan pitchers saw action on the mound in the midweek game.

Tech trailed 2-0 before right fielder Bre'shon Kimbell led off the top of the fifth inning with a single up the middle, followed by a series of walks and hits allowed by the Trojan pitching staff that allowed the Bulldogs to bat around in the lineup to score all six runs on the night.

The Bulldogs were led at the plate by third baseman Ryan Jones who was 2-3 in the game with a run batted in and a run scored. Jones was also hit by a pitch twice in the contest.

Short stop Ryan Gebhardt also totaled two hits in six at bats with an RBI and run scored in the win over the Trojans. Tyler Qualls, Jacob Derouen and Bre'shon Kimbell also added an RBI each Tuesday night.

The Bulldogs sent five pitchers to the mound in the win, including James Ferguson and Tech's Friday-night starter, Phil Maton, who came on in the seventh and eighth innings to setup the save for Dudley.

Tech now returns home to face Oral Roberts in a three-game set beginning with a 6 p.m. start time Friday night at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park. The series will continue at 3 p.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday respectively.

"We are ready to play at home," Simoneaux said. "We only have two home series out of the first 18 games, so it will be nice to play at home for a change. It is always tough to get used to someone else's environment, but our guys made an adjustment and did a good job tonight."
