Head Coach Wade Simoneaux
On the performance of Kyle Roliard, Will Alvis and the pitching staff:
"We were going to pitch one guy for one inning for the game. When (Kyle) Roliard went into the game in the eighth inning we were tied and we really didn't want to use Barrett or LeBreton because they had thrown on Sunday. Kyle was going to go until they got a guy in scoring position. As soon as they got a guy in scoring position and had a right handed batter up, Will (Alvis) came in and closed it out. We need games like this because we needed to throw our younger guys to see who could help us this season."
On the two hits from Will Alvis:
"Will is going to hit for us. He is going through a stage where he is getting around the ball and not staying inside the ball. It's funny that his home run went to right field because every ball that he has hit over the past two weeks has been to left or fouled to left. He had a good night to get the win and home run. "
On Justin Gordey's walk-off walk:
"Gordey is a leadoff type of guy. He is considered for that position because of his strike zone awareness. He laid off of a good breaking ball on the 1-0 pitch to force a 2-0 count. After that, the UALR pitcher just felt the pressure and couldn't throw a strike. It was a good at-bat. It was just a veteran guy who wasn't being greedy and swinging at bad pitches.
On McNeese State:
"We need to get on the road and it will be a good test for us. McNeese is a good baseball team and a tough place to play. It will be a good trip for quarter break but we just have to finish up finals on Wednesday."
Senior RHP/RF Will Alvis
On his production at the plate:
"This past weekend was just one of those weekends where nothing seemed to be going my way. I got in the cages yesterday and worked with Brent Porche and Fran Andermann to try and work on driving the ball to the opposite field. Sure enough I got a pitch to hit and I connected on it."
On recording the final two outs in the 11th inning:
"It was a pressure situation but Kyle Roliard came out and threw a great three innings before me. He got UALR to the point where they were down a little bit because they hadn't been hitting the ball for a couple of innings. I just came in and had the opportunity to eliminate any damage from happening. Kyle is the one who pitched amazing tonight."
On the resiliency of the team to fight after surrendering an early lead:
"We have a lot of older guys that are playing in the field right now. We never quit and we knew that we should win this game and we pulled it out. That is one thing that a lot of teams don't have is the ability to finish games and that is something that we've been working hard to do."
On the 4-0 start heading into McNeese State:
"Well first of all, we're looking to improve to 5-0 and then we will worry about the rest. They are a good ball club and we can't look past the first game. Hopefully we will get game number one and then go from there."
