Final Stats

RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech (15-4) tallied nine runs and 10 hits, but it wasn’t enough as the Bulldogs fell to Southern Miss (15-4), 13-9, on Saturday afternoon at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park.

Jordan Washam was the star of the day for the Diamond ‘Dogs as the senior launched three home runs and collected four RBI on a day where he collected three hits. He was joined by his brother, Jonathan Washam as the only Bulldogs to register multiple hits.

The game couldn’t have gotten off to a better start on the afternoon as Jordan Washam homered down the right field line to open the bottom of the first. After Jordan Washam wrapped one around the foul pole, Raphael Gladu sent the next pitch over the wall in right center for back-to-back solo home runs.

The Golden Eagles answered back in a big way in the top of second, putting up a six-spot on scoreboard. Southern Miss would never relinquish the lead again.

Southern Miss’ lead got as large as 12-3, scoring multiple runs in four of the first six innings, but the Bulldogs clawed back scoring at least one run over the final four innings.

Louisiana Tech had a chance in the bottom of the ninth, getting the tying run to the plate with the bases loaded and two outs, following Washam’s second home run of the game.

Southern Miss called on closer Nick Sandlin, for the one-out save, who got a strikeout to end the ball game. Sandlin earned his second save of the season.

Six different Bulldogs drove in a run, led by Jordan Washam who was the only to drive in multiple runs.

As a team Louisiana Tech drew eight walks and four hit by pitches, but the Diamond ‘Dogs left 16 runners on base. Louisiana Tech left at least one runner on base in every inning and multiple runners on base in each of the final five innings.

Hayden Roberts got the win for Southern Miss. Roberts tossed 5.2 innings and gave up four runs, three earned, and struck out six.
