LA Tech Drops Midweek to SFA, 6-2
March 22, 2017
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Louisiana Tech was held to less than two runs for just the second time this season, as the Bulldogs dropped a 6-2 decision on the road at Stephen F. Austin on Tuesday night.
Erik Nouis picked up his first win of the season for Stephen F. Austin.
SFA tied things up with a solo home run in the bottom of the second, but the Diamond ‘Dogs responded in the top of the fourth. Dalton Skelton drew a two-out walk and Jordan Washam brought him home on his second double of the game.
The ‘Jacks tied things up in the fourth and tacked on two more runs in the fifth to take a 4-2 lead after five innings.
Following the bottom of the fifth, the game was delayed for nearly 30 minutes due to a lighting issue on the field. City owned lights beyond the wall in center field caused the umpires to temporarily suspend the game until they were turned off.
Following the delay, SFA used a two-run sixth inning to get their lead out to 6-2.
The Diamond ‘Dogs had a chance in the ninth, bringing the tying run to the plate, but a 4-6-3 double play ended the Louisiana Tech threat and the ball game.
Louisiana Tech was led by Jordan Washam who has now registered multiple hits in six of his last eight games. The senior was 2-for-4 at the plate with two doubles and a hit by pitch.
Louisiana Tech now shifts focus back towards Conference USA play, as the Diamond ‘Dogs will travel to Charlotte for a three-game set with the 49ers starting Friday at 5 p.m. CT.
