TULSA, Okla. - A six-run fourth inning by Oral Roberts (11-13) was too much to overcome as Louisiana Tech (13-13) fell to the Golden Eagles, 9-1, on Friday evening at J.L. Johnson Stadium in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Jeb Stefan (1-5) was credited with the loss after allowing eight runs - seven earned - and striking out four in 5.1 innings. Southpaw Mike Torrence (2-4) picked up his second win of the season after throwing seven innings of one-run baseball.
Taylor Terrasas extended his reached base safely streak to 12 games after hitting his fourth double in the top of the fifth inning. The leadoff hitter was 1-for-3 at the dish and is now hitting .350 on the season.
The Golden Eagles scored six runs in the fourth inning to take a 6-0 lead and then added two runs in the sixth inning for an 8-0 advantage.
The Bulldogs put a run on the scoreboard in the top of the seventh after Alvis singled to center field with one out in the inning. Gordey followed with his fifth double of the year, giving Tech runners in scoring position with one out. Catcher Bennett Pickar attempted to pick off Alvis at third and threw the ball away, allowing Tech to score its only run of the game.
Oral Roberts tacked on another run in the bottom of the frame as ORU defeated Tech, 9-1 in game one of the three-game series.
