RUSTON, La. - In the series opener on Friday night, Louisiana Tech dropped a 6-3 decision to UTSA in a game that saw the Bulldogs out-hit the roadrunners, but come up short in a controversy-filled finish.

Louisiana Tech had at least one runner reach base in every inning and had multiple runners reach base in each of the first seven innings, but never could come up with the big hit.

Brent Diaz, Marshall Boggs and Raphael Gladu all registered multiple hits for the ‘Dogs, with Boggs leading the way, reaching base in his first four plate appearances.

Chase Lunceford, Boggs and Gladu each drove in a run for the ‘Dogs.

After UTSA plated two runs in the top of the first, Louisiana Tech responded when Boggs delivered an RBI-single to cut the deficit to 2-1.

Unfortunately, the Roadrunners tacked on two runs in the third, but once again LA Tech responded with a run of their own on an RBI-single from Lunceford.

The Diamond ‘Dogs added their final run of the game on an RBI-single from Gladu in the bottom of the seventh.

The bottom of the eighth won’t be forgotten soon by fans in attendance at the Love Shack. After Ullrich opened the frame with a single, Jordan Washam looked to have tripled home Ullrich with nobody out in the inning. That would have cut the deficit to 6-4, but the home plate umpire overturned the play, saying that time had been called before the pitch was delivered.

The Bulldogs would go down in order following the overturned call.

Tim Jordan shined on the mound in relief, tossing 3.1 scoreless innings and striking out there. Jordan was joined by Josh Carpenter who pitched two scoreless frames and struck out two.

Louisiana Tech and UTSA return to J.C. Love Field tomorrow for a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. Both games will be broadcast live on ESPN 97.7 and streamed on CUSA.TV.
