Offensive Bursts for 11 Runs, Defeat UALR 11-2

RUSTON - The Louisiana Tech (18-22) offense exploded for 11 runs and 13 hits as the Bulldogs defeated the Trojans of UALR (20-20), 11-2, on Tuesday evening at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park.
Trevor Petersen (3-4) was credited with his third win of the season after four shutout innings in relief of starter Chris Sadberry. Sadberry went three innings and struck out four while Petersen did not allow a hit and struck out four in the victory. Ethan Schlechte (2-2) was charged with his second loss on the year after allowing four runs - two earned - and eight hits in 5.1 innings.
"Petersen and Sadberry did a good job against a good hitting team," said head coach Wade Simoneaux. "We finally broke it open offensively and we needed a win tonight to give us some confidence going into Thursday."
Freshman Bre'shon Kimbell hit a three-run shot in the seventh inning for his third home run of the season while Alex Williams went 1-for-2 at the dish with two runs, two walks and one RBI. Ryan Gebhardt went 2-for-4 with two singles, two runs scored and two RBI and outfielder Sam Alvis scored three times and recorded two hits in three at-bats. Austin Hedges picked up two singles while pinch hitters Tyler Qualls and Jacob Derouen singled in their only plate appearances.
Tech took a 1-0 lead in the second inning after three consecutive singles with two outs. Alvis reached on an infield single and advanced to second on a single through the left side by Stephen Gandy. Alvis came around to score on an RBI single by center fielder Justin Gordey to plate the first run of the game.
After the Trojans tied the game at 1-1 in the third inning, Tech took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single by Gebhardt. Alvis led off the bottom frame with a single to left field and advanced to second base on a two-out single by third baseman Taylor Terrasas. Alvis scored his second run of the game on Gebhardt's single to give the Bulldogs a one-run lead.
LA Tech added three runs in the sixth to take a 5-1 lead as the Trojans walked two hitters and made two defensive miscues.
After a pitching change for UALR in the bottom of the seventh, the Bulldogs offense came alive as Tech scored six runs on five hits, highlighted by a three-run home run by Kimbell.
UALR added a run in the eighth on a solo shot by Sean Bignall as the left fielder hit his 16th home run of the season.
The Bulldogs return to conference play on Thursday at 6 p.m. as Tech hosts Hawai'i for a three-game set.
