Terrasas and Kimbell Lead Baseball to 10-5 Victory

RUSTON, La. - Taylor Terrasas and Bre'shon Kimbell combined to go 5-for-8 with four runs and six RBI as Louisiana Tech (22-23, 5-9 WAC) defeated San Jose State (21-21, 5-6 WAC) on Saturday afternoon at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park.

Terrasas led off the game with his second home run of the season in route to a 3-for-3 from the plate with two RBI and Kimbell hit a three-run home run in the eighth inning, his fifth on the year, as the freshman designated hitter recorded four RBI in the victory.

Phil Maton (7-4) picked up his seventh win of the season after allowing just two runs - one earned - and striking out five in 7.0 innings. Caleb Dudley set LA Tech's career appearances record (79) after the junior recorded his eighth save of the season in 1.1 innings. Esteban Guzman (1-2) was charged with the loss after allowing five runs - four earned - in 3.0 innings.

Kody Neel went 2-for-4 with one RBI in the victory and eight of the nine Tech starters scored at least one run.

Terrasas gave the Bulldogs an early 1-0 lead after hitting his second leadoff home run this season.

Second baseman Austin Hedges walked to lead off the second inning and Kyle Arnsberg and Sam Alvis hit back-to-back singles to load the bases with no outs. Neel plated Hedges on a fielder's choice as Tech took a 2-0 lead.


 

 

The Bulldogs added a run in the third to take a three-run lead after Terrasas led off the third inning with a single and came around to score on a throwing error by third baseman Caleb Natov.

The Spartans scored a run in fourth to cut Tech's lead to 3-1 but the Bulldogs added two runs in the bottom frame on two hits by Neel and Gebhardt to take a 5-1 lead.

After SJSU scored another run in the fifth, Tech added a run in the sixth inning after Terrasas singled to lead off the inning. Kimbell singled to right field to plate Terrasas to take a 6-2 lead.

San Jose State scored three runs in the eighth inning off of James Ferguson and Caleb Dudley to cut its deficit to one. Tech exploded for four runs in the bottom frame, highlighted by a three-run home run by Kimbell to take a 10-5 lead going into the ninth.

Dudley closed the door in the ninth for his eighth save of the season as Tech clinched the series victory.

Trevor Petersen (4-4) takes the hill for the Bulldogs in the series finale as first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. Alex Williams and Justin Gordey will be honored before the game on "senior day."
