Final Stats

RUSTON, La. - A nine-run frame and an eight-run frame made the difference as Louisiana Tech clinched its sixth consecutive series with a 19-4, run-rule win over Marshall on Saturday afternoon at J.C. Love Field.

It was an inning to remember in the bottom of the third as Louisiana Tech batted around without recording an out, all part of a nine-run frame. Every player in the Louisiana Tech lineup scored a run in the bottom of the third.

The Bulldogs went deep four times, as three seniors hit a long ball on senior day. Jordan Washan and Jonathan Washam homered on the same day for the first time in their careers.

In the eighth inning, senior Matt Holcombe got an opportunity to pinch hit and he made the most of it, smashing his first career home run over the wall in left center.

Raphael Gladu had another four-hit day, his fifth game with four or more hits this season, raising his season batting average up to .386. Gladu also drove in four runs for the second time in his career and for the first time in a conference game. The senior also used a first-inning double to extend his hitting streak to 15 games which is the most by any Bulldog this season.

Jordan Washam continued to make his presence felt in just his second game back on the diamond. Washam launched a three-run home run in the bottom of the third. Washam also scored two runs to go along with the three RBI.

Brent Diaz also picked up three RBI in the win. Diaz and Washam went back-to-back in the third inning, marking the fifth time this season that Louisiana Tech has hit back-to-back home runs.

Diaz joined Jordan, Jonathan and Gladu as the only Bulldogs with multiple hits.

Dustin Mitchell did not register an official plate appearance, but he walked it off for Louisiana Tech. In the bottom of the eighth with Louisiana Tech leading 18-4, Mitchell came to the plate with the bases loaded and was hit by a pitch, forcing home the winning run as Colby Hamilton scored to trigger the 15-run rule.

Eight Bulldogs scored multiple runs in the win as Louisiana Tech batted around in both the bottom of the third and the bottom of the eight.

The 19 runs scored by the Diamond Dogs are tied for the most scored this season. LA Tech also scored 19 runs in a win over Arkansas State in the first game of a double-header in Jonesboro.

Louisiana Tech’s six consecutive conference series wins marks the first time in program history the Bulldogs have accomplished the feat.

With the win, LA Tech now sits in a two-way tie for fourth place and just one game out of third place and two games out of second place. There are other games still in action though.

Nate Harris got things done on the hill, moving to 8-0 on the season. Harris went six innings in the win over Marshall and struck out four.

Zack Hamilton tossed two shutout frames in relief and did not allow a hit, nor a walk, while also striking out a batter.

LA Tech will try and go for the series sweep tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. at the Love Shack. The game will be streamed on CUSA.TV and broadcast on ESPN 97.7 FM.
