Dogs Use 15-Run Rule to Even Series at Middle Tennessee, 19-2

May 19, 2017

Final Stats

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - In just seven innings, Louisiana Tech (36-17, 17-12 C-USA) compiled 21 hits and 19 runs in a 19-2 win over Middle Tennessee (23-31, 9-20 C-USA) that evened up the series on Friday night in Murfreesboro.

Colby Hamilton stole the show with a five-for-five performance that included two doubles and a solo home run. Hamilton drove in four runs and scored three more.

Every player in the Louisiana Tech lineup scored a run and registered a hit. The Diamond ‘Dogs hadn’t accomplished that feat since 2012 against McNeese State.

Six different Bulldogs registered multiple hits in the win. Jordan Washam, Brent Diaz and Jonathan Washam each collected three hits on the night. Jonathan Washam also had three RBI to go along with his three hits.

Seven Bulldogs had multiple RBI. Raphael Gladu, Sean Ullrich and Jonathan Washam each had three to pace the team behind Hamilton.

A six run first inning, with all six runs coming with two outs after a Blue Raider error, helped jump start LA Tech. The Bulldogs scored at least one run in the first five innings and scored multiple runs in three of the first five innings.

Raphael Gladu, who reached base four times in the win, blasted his eighth home run of the season. The senior will carry an 18-game hitting streak into the regular season finale tomorrow afternoon.

Nate Harris got the start for Louisiana Tech and was electric, tossing six innings and allowing just two runs over that stretch. Harris did not allow a walk and picked up his Conference USA-leading ninth win on the season.

Graham Ahlrich pitched the final inning and did not allow a base runner as the game came to a close on the 15-run rule.

The Bulldogs showed impressive plate discipline in the win. On top of drawing seven walks, four Bulldogs were also hit by a pitch, a category Louisiana Tech ranks top-three in the nation in.

The 19 runs scored by Louisiana Tech tie for the most runs scored by the team this season. LA Tech has put up 19 runs in three contests this season. The ‘Dogs also eclipsed the 400-total run mark for the season in the win.

LA Tech now sits in a three-way tie for third place in Conference USA with Florida Atlantic and Charlotte. The Bulldogs could still claim the three-seed, but will need both a win and Charlotte loss to make that happen.

Prior to last season LA Tech hadn’t won 36 games in a season since 1989 and now they have achieved that feat in consecutive seasons.

LA Tech and Middle Tennessee will take the field each for the final time in the regular season on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. The rubber match in Murfreesboro will be streamed on CUSA.TV and broadcast on ESPN 97.7 FM.
