Bulldogs Falls in Conference USA Tournament Opener
May 24, 2017
BILOXI, Miss. - An early deficit was too much to overcome as Louisiana Tech fell to Charlotte 7-2 on Wednesday night at MGM Park in Biloxi, Mississippi.
Sean Ullrich was the lone run producer for Louisiana Tech, blasting a massive solo home run to left center in the top of the sixth inning. The laser shot left the park in a hurry, but was all Louisiana Tech had to show as the Bulldogs fell to the losers bracket on Wednesday night.
Mark Baughman tossed two scoreless innings in relief and allowed just one hit.
It was the first round of The First, A National Banking Association, Conference USA Championship in Biloxi as the Bulldogs and 49ers were the final game of the day.
After Louisiana Tech threatened in the top of the first, but couldn’t push a run across, Charlotte responded with a three-spot in the bottom of the first.
The 49ers added a run in the third and then another three-spot in the fifth inning. That made is 7-0, before Ullrich’s home run in the top of the sixth inning got one of those runs back.
Louisiana Tech mounted a late rally attempt in the ninth, as the Bulldogs added a run on a fielders’ choice from Raphael Gladu that scored Jonathan Washam. That lone run would be all for the ‘Dogs in the ninth.
LA Tech will now play nationally-ranked Southern Miss tomorrow afternoon in an elimination game set for 12:30 p.m. at MGM Park. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3 which is available through the WatchESPN App or WatchESPN.com.
You can also listen to the Bulldogs take on the No. 11 Golden Eagles on ESPN 97.7 FM in Ruston and 100.7 The Ticket in Shreveport.
