RUSTON--The Blue team scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take an 8-6 lead and win game two of the Fall World Series Tuesday night at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park. The series is now tied at 1-1.

Although Mike Jefferson pitched a gem for the White team, they were unable to hold onto a 6-2 lead once Jefferson left the ballgame. Jefferson gave up three runs, two earned, off four hits and recorded six strikeouts in five innings of work in the no-decision. Will Alvis came in relief of Jefferson and surrendered three runs in only one third of an inning of work. The big blow against Alvis came after a RBI double down the right field line by Drew Thomas. With Thomas on second senior Jonathan Mire slapped a two-run home run over the right field wall to tie the game at six.

Philp Menou (0-1) came in relief of Alvis and gave up two runs to receive the loss. After a fielding error by the shortstop, Dan Breazeale singled to left field to keep the inning alive. Now with two men on Clint Stubbs launched a double over the left fielder's head to knock in the two runs and put the Blue team up 8-6 going into the final inning.

"The Blue team had timely hitting," Simoneaux said. "(Jonathan) Mire hit a two-run home run to tie the game and then (Clint) Stubbs followed him up with a two RBI double."

The White team's Jamelle Clements (1-0) pitched four scoreless innings in relief to earn the win. Clements relieved freshman Trevor Peterson after the third inning as Peterson gave up six runs off five hits with only four of the runs being earned.

"I thought (Mike) Jefferson pitched well," Head coach Wade Simoneaux said. "He definitely pitched well enough to win so its sad to see his team ppick up the loss. Also I thought Jamelle Clements did a solid job in relief for the Blue team."

The White team took a commanding 6-2 lead in the third inning after pounding out five runs off three hits and three errors. After a sac fly by Menou with the bases loaded scored one, Devon Dageford doubled to left center to score another. Following the Dageford double, Clint Ewing was hit by a pitch setting up a two run single through the right side by shortstop Ashton Hughes. The next batter lined out to Mark Threlkeld at third base for the second out, but while trying to turn a doubleplay Threlkeld threw the ball over the second baseman's head, allowing Ewing to score on the play. Corey White then flied out to left to end the inning.

"As a whole I thought tonight's game was somewhat better than last night's," Simoneaux said. "Instead of 25 free bases off of walks, errors and hit batters, there were only 12. The game was a lot cleaner tonight, but we still gave up too many free bases. With the series tied at one game a-piece it definitely makes for an interesting series."

The series will continue with game three Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m. at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park. Game three will be available to follow via game tracker on www.latechsports.com.
