RUSTON--Will Alvis' three-run homerun in the fourth inning helped power the White team to a 6-1 win over the Blue team Wednesday night in game seven of the Fall World Series at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park.
In addition to Alvis' three-run homerun in the fourth, the junior also added an RBI in the first with a sacrifice fly to centerfield to score Tyler Boss. Freshmen Ashton Hughes and Austin Hedges each added a RBI apiece in the sixth inning. The Blue team's lone run came in the fourth inning when Alex Williams scored on a balk by Philip Menou. Williams went 3-3 on the night with two singles and a double.
"I thought it was a great effort by both teams throughout the entire series," Tech head coach Wade Simoneaux said. "It was a competitive series which is good to see and I thought the White team's pitching staff had an excellent series. We had another clean game defensively with only one error between the two teams which is a positive. It was a fun series, but now it's time to get back together as one."
The White team had three pitchers with strong showings in game seven. Mike LeBreton earned the win after pitching three scoreless innings, giving up just two hits and striking out two. Menou threw two innings, giving up one run off four hits. Cody Watts closed the game out for White as he gave up no runs in two innings of work.
The Blue team's Casey Jones was pinned with the loss after giving up four runs, three earned, in three innings. Matt Calhoun came in for Jones in the fourth and pitched two scoreless innings while only giving up one hit. Relieving Calhoun was Matt DeGraauw who threw two innings, giving up two runs off of three hits.
