RUSTON -- The Ruston Daily Leader has named Brian Rike and Latonia Wilson as the 2007 Lincoln Parish College male and female athletes of the year, respectively.
Rike put together one of the best individual seasons in Louisiana Tech history, hitting .346 with 20 home runs and 66 RBIs. In conference play, he kept up the big numbers by batting .370 with nine home runs and 28 RBIs.
Rike earned a multitude of post-season honors, including being named to three different All-America teams and being named 2007 WAC Player of the Year. He became the highest draft selection in Louisiana Tech history after being picked in the second round (72nd overall) by Colorado.
Wilson had a sensational season capped off by All-American honors for relays and sprints while being named the WAC's Outdoor Outstanding Performer of the Year for 2008. She ran a blazing 22.80 seconds in the 200-meter dash at the 2007 John McDonnell Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., and followed with an 11.13-second performance in the 100 at the same meet.
Wilson was also the anchor on one of the top 4x400 teams in the nation last year for the Lady Techsters and was invited to compete for Team USA in the North American Central American Caribbean Games in San Salvador.
