@LATechSports Sets Fan Day for Softball, Baseball
Jan. 23, 2018
RUSTON -- Louisiana Tech fans are invited to attend a joint Bulldog baseball-Lady Techster softball fan fest set for Saturday, Feb. 3 at 1 p.m. at JC Love Field at Pat Patterson Park.
The event is free and will include inflatable games, interactive baseball and softball drill stations, poster giveaways, team autographs and Tech spirit squads, including Champ. Tech fans will have an opportunity to interact with head coach Lane Burroughs and the Bulldog baseball players and head coach Mark Montgomery and the Lady Techster softball players.
Prior to the event, both teams will conduct intra-squad scrimmages at their respective fields. The Lady Techsters, who are the preseason favorite to repeat as Conference USA champions, will begin their scrimmage at approximately 10 a.m. at the Lady Techster Softball Complex. The Bulldogs will begin their intrasquad scrimmage that morning at JC Love Field at Pat Patterson Park at 10 a.m.
Season tickets for Bulldog baseball will be on sale at the event (admission for Lady Techster softball games is free). Any fan who has already purchased Bulldog baseball season tickets already will have an opportunity to win their season tickets for free by hitting a home run at the end of the event.
The Lady Techsters are coming off a 38-win season that saw the program claim the West Division of Conference USA and then capture the C-USA Tournament title in Hattiesburg, earning the automatic bid to the 2017 NCAA Regionals. Tech defeated Albany and took No. 1 ranked Minnesota to extra innings before falling in the Tuscaloosa Regional.
Montgomery and Co. return 15 letter winners from last year's team, including six all-conference performers, and welcome 10 newcomers to the roster. Tech opens its season Feb. 8-10 at the Puerta Vallarta College Challenge in Mexico. The Lady Techsters open their 21-game home schedule Feb. 23-25 hosting the six-team Louisiana Tech Invitational.
The Bulldogs finished last season with 36 wins under first-year head coach Lane Burroughs, marking the first back-to-back 35-plus win seasons in more than 25 years for the program. A record number of season ticket holders saw Tech register a 22-7 home record (45-12 in the last two years) as the Bulldogs held the nation's longest home winning streak of 15 games after knocking off nationally-ranked Arkansas on Feb. 28.
Tech opens the 2018 slate Feb. 16-18 in Malibu, California, taking on Pepperdine. The Bulldogs will then return to Ruston to begin their 27-home game schedule Feb. 23-25, welcoming SIU-Edwardsville to the Love Shack.
