Louisiana Tech Begins Series with McNeese State Friday Night

RUSTON--Louisiana Tech (3-1) and McNeese State (3-1) will meet on the baseball diamond for the 118th this weekend as the Bulldogs and Cowboys begin a three-game series with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. CT Friday night at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park.

The Bulldogs currently hold a 74-44 record when facing the Cowboys although McNeese has won the last three match-ups. The Cowboys swept the Bulldogs last season with scores of 10-5, 16-6 and 8-5.

Tech is coming off of a 20-3 rout of Grambling State on Tuesday night in which 10 different Bulldogs recorded at least one RBI. Designated hitter Will Alvis is currently leading the team with a .750 batting average while Joey Ford leads the team with 6 RBI. Ford and third baseman Mark Threlkeld are tied with a team leading one homerun each.

Starting on the mound for the Bulldogs Friday night will be sophomore right hander Jeb Stefan (0-1, 1.80 ERA, 9K). Senior left hander Jamey Bradshaw (1-0, 3.60 ERA, 6K) will get the start Saturday and sophomore left hander Mike Jefferson (0-0, 1.93 ERA, 3K) will finish off the series as the starter Sunday.

McNeese State returns all three starting pitchers from 2009 along with seven position players. The Cowboys are 3-1 on the season so far after carrying No. 1 LSU down to the wire Wednesday night before dropping a 2-1 decision. LSU catcher Micah Gibbs belted a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning for the game winner.

At this point in the season the Cowboys have been led offensively in by outfielder Andy Riche' who is batting .538 with 7 RBI. Receiving his second start of the season Friday night will be Matt Click (0-0, 9.00 ERA, 5K). Click is a 6'3 junior right hander from Austin, Texas. Saturday the Cowboys will start left hander Tyler Davis (1-0, 1.50 ERA, 5K) and Sunday senior right hander Jonathan Conrad (1-0, 0.00 ERA, 5K) will start.

 

 

First pitch is scheduled for 6p.m. Friday night to begin the series. On Saturday, first pitch will be at 3 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. CT. If the game is rained out Friday night a double-header will be scheduled for the weekend.
