RUSTON, La. - After a 2-1 series win over Stephen F. Austin over the weekend, Louisiana Tech (7-14) will continue their 12-game home stand beginning with two midweek contests against the Trojans of UALR Tuesday and Alcorn State Wednesday at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park in Ruston.
UALR (10-10) will travel to Ruston for a Tuesday night showdown at 6 p.m., while the action continues at 6 p.m. Wednesday with the Alcorn State Braves coming to town to take on the Bulldogs.
The game Tuesday will mark the 71st meeting between the Bulldogs and Trojans on the diamond, with Tech holding an advantage with a 51-19 record over UALR. In the last meeting between the two teams, Tech came out on top 6-3 at Gary Hogan Field in a midweek contest earlier this season. Tech swept the Trojans in two games in 2012, winning the first game 11-9 on Feb. 22, 2012 at Gary Hogan Field in Little Rock. The Bulldog closed out the series with an 11-2 victory on that Sunday.
UALR will ride into Ruston having been swept this past weekend in conference action against Arkansas State at home. The Trojans have lost seven of their last eight games and will look for redemption after the Bulldogs took the first meeting this season in Little Rock.
UALR will send right hander Cameron Allen to the mound Tuesday in what will mark his ninth appearance on the season and second start. Allen is 1-0 with a 4.40 earned run average in 14.1 innings pitched in 2013. The Trojans are led at the plate by Ben Crumpton who has posted a .373 batting average in 2013.
The Braves of Alcorn State (4-18) have traveled to Ruston a total of five times with the Bulldogs having prevailed in four of those contests, most recently with a 5-1 victory in 2011. Alcorn State is coming off a 2-1 series win over Mississippi Valley State in Southwestern Athletic Conference play this past weekend.
The Bulldogs will start left hander Ben Carlisle in Tuesday's contest in what will be the junior's fifth appearance of the season and his fourth start. Carlisle (0-2) has allowed 10 runs - six earned - off 16 hits in 14.1 innings of work and has posted a 3.68 earned run average thus far.
Promotions for this week's games include 80s night for Tuesday night's matchup against the Trojans. Fans in attendance will receive free sunglasses while supplies last, while the Bulldogs will be taking the field to the sounds of the 80s during the game. Tech's game versus Alcorn State will mark Faith and Family Night at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park.
