RUSTON, La. - Fresh off a victory over Conference USA mate FIU, Louisiana Tech will step out of league play briefly as the Bulldogs travel to take on UALR beginning at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Gary Hogan Field in Little Rock, Ark.
LA Tech (10-23, 4-14 C-USA) is coming off yet another series defeat this past weekend to FIU, but the
Bulldogs gained a bit of confidence on Sunday after a 4-2 win over the Panthers snapped a nine-game losing streak.
This will be a return trip to Little Rock for LA Tech as the Bulldogs hosted UALR (13-20, 3-12 SBC) earlier this season in a game that saw the Trojans come out victorious by a score of 11-2 in Ruston.
The midweek contest between the Trojans and LA Tech is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. on Tuesday at Gary Hogan Field in Little Rock, Ark.
LA Tech will meet up with the Trojans from UALR for the 73rd time in the history of both teams Wednesday in midweek action. Louisiana Tech currently leads the all-time series 52-20 and has won four of the last five over the Trojans. In Simoneaux's 12 years as head coach of the Bulldogs, LA Tech is a combined 6-2 versus the Trojans, including a 1-1 record on the road.
At the plate
Through 33 games, sophomore shortstop Taylor Love continues to lead the Bulldogs at the dish with a .341 batting average this season, which ranks fourth among all C-USA hitters. Love leads the team in hits (42), doubles (9), runs (19) and on base percentage (.387). Senior first baseman Tyler Ervine (.301 BA) leads the team with 17 RBI and is tied for the team lead with three home runs. As a whole, LA Tech is hitting .253 this season with 39 doubles, a triple and 14 home runs.
On the mound
Freshman right-hander Braden Bristo (1-0, 2.76 ERA) will get his first collegiate start of the season as he will take the mound Tuesday against UALR. Bristo is fourth on the team in ERA and recently earned his first career win over Grambling State on March 25. As a staff, LA Tech's team ERA is 4.90, while opposing teams are batting .283 against the Bulldogs in 2014.
UALR's Chad Bradford (2-1, 3.41 ERA) will get his seventh start of the campaign for the Trojans, as the sophomore right-hander enters the contest as the team leader in ERA through 33 games. As a whole, UALR's pitching staff has a 3.66 ERA in 295.1 innings.
The Bulldogs will keep their bags packed as Tech makes the trip to Hattiesburg, Miss., to battle Southern Miss for the first time as a Conference USA opponent. The all-time series between the Golden Eagles and LA Tech is knotted at 13-13-1 heading into the weekend. The three-game road series begins at 6 p.m. on Friday, April 18 at Pete Taylor Park on the campus of Southern Miss.
