Baseball to Conclude Road Trip at Northwestern State Tuesday

RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech (12-24, 2-10 WAC) will conclude its seven-game road stretch as the Bulldogs travel midweek to face in-state foe Northwestern State (11-25, 2-10 SLC) at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Brown-Stroud Field in Natchitoches, La.
The Bulldogs are coming off a series sweep at the hands of Texas State last weekend and will coming into Tuesday night's game looking to snap a five-game losing streak against the Demons before conference play resumes next weekend.
"We are going to play a lot of guys that have not played against Northwestern," head coach Wade Simoneaux said. "We have to sit some of these starters after a grueling, long weekend. It has been grueling on these starters, and it takes more of a toll when you are getting beat. Right now, these guys are on their heels and we have to get them off their heels."
Following this week's midweek contest versus the Demons, Tech will return home to host WAC-foe New Mexico State in a four-game series beginning at 6 p.m. Friday at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park in Ruston.
The Bulldogs travel to face a familiar foe Tuesday as the Demons of Northwestern State will host Tech for the 146th meeting in the history of this in-state rivalry. The visiting 'Dogs hold an 85-60 advantage in head-to-head matchups and have won four of the last five meetings, most recently with a win over Northwestern State in 2012 by a score of 8-2 at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park in Ruston.

AT THE PLATE
As a team, Northwestern State is matched pretty evenly with the Bulldogs with a team batting average of .243 with 47 doubles, three triples and seven home runs on the season. The Demons are led at the plate by senior Will Watson, who is hitting .328 in 2013 with four doubles, 17 RBI and a .410 on base per¬centage in 31 appearances. Watson leads the team in batting average (.328), hits (40), RBI (17), slugging percentage (.402) and on base percentage (.410).
The Bulldogs come into the midweek matchup with a team batting average of .250 with 52 doubles, two triples and 14 long balls on the season. Tech continues to be led at the plate by junior shortstop Ryan Gebhardt, who is hitting a team-leading .295 with nine doubles, 17 RBI and 20 runs scored. Gebhardt also leads the Bulldogs in at bats (139), runs (20), hits (41) and total bases (52).
ON THE MOUND
Northwestern State will send junior left hander Joey Parrack to start things off versus the Bulldogs Tuesday night. Parrack (0-4) has an ERA of 6.75 in five starts and eight appearances this season. In 20.0 innings of work, Parrack has totaled 23 strikeouts, awarded 12 walks and is holding opposing hitters to a .361 average.
Freshman right hander Adam Derouen (0-0) will get the start for Tech in tomorrow's contest versus the Demons. Derouen has appeared in nine games in his first season with the Bulldogs and has recorded an ERA of 2.35 in 15.1 innings of work. The freshman has struck out seven batters he has faced and walked six.
