April 20, 2017
RUSTON, La. - Coming off of consecutive series victories on the road in Conference USA play, the Diamond ‘Dogs return home for a weekend series against UAB, starting on Friday night at 6 p.m. at J.C. Love Field.
The Bulldogs picked up two big wins this past week, first using a walk off double on Tuesday night from Jordan Washam to take down nationally-ranked McNeese, 8-7. Louisiana Tech followed up that performance by going on the road and knocking off Little Rock 10-6 on Wednesday night.
The Bulldogs currently sit at 6-9 in C-USA but have played arguably the toughest schedule in the conference halfway through league play. After an early hiccup, the Diamond ‘Dogs have won six of their last eight and will play their next six games at the Love Shack.
Chase Lunceford has been a run-producing machine over the past five games. Over that stretch, the senior has driven in nine runs and blast four home runs. His 11 home runs on the season rank second in Conference USA and top-30 in the entire nation.
Jonathan Washam has been on an absolute tear for Louisiana Tech, registering three-hit contests in three consecutive games. He is the first Bulldog this season to register at least three hits in three consecutive games.
During the 6-2 stretch over the past eight games, six Bulldogs have amassed an on-base percentage over .421 or high and four have a slugging percentage over .500. Sean Ullrich leads all hitters during that stretch with a .500 on-base percentage, while Lunceford has an incredible .828 slugging percentage in those eight contests.
Casey Sutton will get the nod on Friday and the Bulldogs have picked up wins in each of his last two starts.
Nate Harris will also likely get a start this weekend. Harris who has tossed two compelte games in his last three starts got a no-decision in his last start at Old Dominion. The right-hander ranks sixth in the nation with a 1.06 ERA and has the best WHIP in college baseball at 0.74.
